i reconstructed what i believe to be more or less the originial version of Chess called chaturanga in India. It looks like Sittuyin or Makruk, although
starting configuration is random and realized by
dropping pieces. Where the bishop in european chess
there is an elephant which jumps one square more diagonally than the knight. I implemented some variants so it is likely that the original version
is among it.
