Perhaps you can find it here (but it's a whole lot!): http://www.chessvariants.org/index/mainquery.php?type=Any&category=Shape&orderby=LinkText&displayauthor=1&displayinventor=1&usethisheading=Unusually+Shaped+Boards |

I’ve designed a Torus Chess game along the lines suggested. The increased mobility of the pieces makes the choice of starting positions critical. I’ve been examining some alternatives and am investigating how successful the Zillions AI is in coping with them. This should all be completed soon. The game is a little complex but also very intriguing. Practise is needed to become familiar with the movement of pieces. |

Hello Uwe, Your work has relieved me of any need for haste. Your exe program certainly shows some excellent implementation. My design is based on each side having a full complement of pieces consisting of a king, a queen, two rooks, two bishops, two knights and as many pawns as is appropriate for the particular starting position. My preferred starting position creates an excellent basis for a game but I am currently mystified by the AI of the Zillions system. This does need much more investigation and it may take quite a while. There have been some messages posted in the past claiming to describe the way in which Zillions evaluates its final positions in a depth search but I have not experimented to test whether the claims are correct. Some guidance from the implementers of the Zillions program would be greatly appreciated. That’s all for now, Ronald |

I intend to use the new case sensitive whole word search technique to find out what has already been said about the AI of Zillions |

Hello Ronald, Thanks for the flowers. My English isn't unfortunately not realy good ( Im a German boy ). But if i understand you right you are searching for someone who can explain you the Zillions AI. If you have the Actual Version of my Torus Chess ( ver 0.02 ) you see 2 *.zrf files with it. Open one of them with a Programm like Notepad and read the first 3 lines. There you can find the Email addres of the man writing the *.zrf files. Maybe he can help you. |

Hello everyone, Sorry about my recent silence. I completely lost my internet access and have only just reinstated it. More, hopefully soon, will be heard about my finalised Torus Chess. Ronald |

The Torus Chess variant that Corpsman has found was invented in the early 1980's by Jeff Weeks. I implemented it now for Zillions and added some further setups with more pieces per player. You may get it as "TorusChess-JW" from Zillions' Download page. Alfred Pfeiffer |
