Object: Checkmate the opponent's King. All standard chess rules apply, plus the following: | Variant 1 | The Pawns can also move sideways, but they capture only forwards as usual. | | Variant 2 | The Pawns can also move sideways and backwards. | | Variant 3 | As variant 1, plus: apart from promoting on the far rank, pawns on files a to d promote on the h-file, the Pawns on files e to h promote on the a-file. | | Variant 4 | The Pawns can also move sideways and backwards, promote sideways, too. | | Variant 5 thru 8 | are similar to variants 1 thru 4, but the Pawns can also capture in direction NEE and NWW. | | Variant 9 | is standard chess plus this extended NEE, NWW capturing feature. | | Variant 10 thru 13 | are similar to variants 1 thru 4, but the Pawns can only capture forward. There is no En Passant. | | Variant 14 thru 27 | are similar to variants 1 thru 13, but the Pawns can also move 2 steps at any time. En passant capture is possible after these 2-step moves. | The game 'Better Pawns' was born from a desire to have more powerful Pawns in chess.
