In the game of rooksquare chess, all rules of the normal chess game apply, but now there are two different ways to win the game:

1. Checkmate the opponent (as usual.)
2. Move any piece that is a starting square of one of the rooks of the opponent, i.e., White wins when he moves a piece to a8 or h8, and Black wins when he moves a piece to a1 or h1.
