Haga is a two player game on a 4 x 5 board. Players take turns placing their 9 stones on empty squares on the board. After that the stones move orthogonally one step at the time or jump over enemy stone. However, there is no jump capture. When player forms an orthogonal line of exactly three stones, one enemy stone is removed from the board. The player that has only two stones left loses. Haga is a variant of Dara, a 19th century game played by the Dakarkari people of Nigeria, with a smaller board and a jump rule which reduces the change of a draw. Haga is a suburb of my beloved Norrköping, Sweden. |
