Gwangsanghui is an 18th-century Janggi variant. It was recorded in Noeyeonjip
which was written by Nam Yuyong.
The rules for moving the King and General is the same as General in traditional
Janggi. Pawn, Chariot, Horse, Elephant, Cannon and Guard is same as Janggi
as well.
- Soldier can only move forward 1 diagonally.
- Knight moves like Horse, but cannot take other pieces or taken by other
pieces on the board. However, it can only be taken by Killer.
- Killer can move 1 diagonally.
- Warrior can move horizontally or vertically one or two moves like Chariot.
- Forawrd and Backward can only be captured when exchanging.
You win if you capture King, but if you didn't, dominant side wins. If General
from either West or East army is captures, all the pieces in there belongs to
the other party (the ownership changes). However, if you capture the piece which
captured your General right afterwards, you can get all the lost pieces back.
